Speaking but with No Sound

As today’s youth becomes more and more technologically savvy, communication skills are diminishing.  This seems quite paradoxical in the fact that we teens are always in full communication: cell phone attached to the ear, fingers typing furiously on the blackberry keyboard, and eyes glued to the iPod Touch Facebook screen. Our generation may interact more, but we’ve lost sight of what it means to have face-to-face interactions.  We have the tendency to not spend as much time physically with people, and instead just type our conversations via text or through some social networking site on the internet.  We embody what it means to be the “Myspace Generation.”

Girlfriend Brings Hope to Haiti

E-mail Print PDF

While the news in Haiti flooded with updates, both tragic and optimistic, many of us feel removed: you go to school, you work, you have a family, and you have obligations. What on earth could you possibly do?

Sarah Wimmer, a young woman and paramedic from Arizona, is giving us all a very hands-on tutorial in giving and love with her relief efforts in Haiti.  (Sarah Wimmer pictured below, top left.)

The 7.0 quake on January 12th and its whopping 28 aftershocks have leveled the city of Port-au-Prince and left no running water or electricity—this much is widely known.  Not spoken of largely, however, are the conditions that the locals are faced with and the challenges that face those who are coming from across the globe to help.

Hidden Joy in a Dark Corner

E-mail Print PDF

Sexual assault is a crime of opportunity.  Rarely is a woman assaulted by a stalker.  A perpetrator selects his victim because by her actions (carelessly or unintentionally), she has made herself an easy target.  The key to avoid being a rapist's next victim is awareness. By following a few simple steps, you can avoid being an easy target!  Every 21 hours, at US college campuses alone, someone is raped. Shocking statistics indicate that only 10% of women who are assaulted come forward, and of those who have acknowledged participation in non-consensual sex, only 40% of those are willing to call this rape. Join Patty and Lisa as they speak with Wendy Blight, author of the inspirational book “Hidden Joy in a Dark Corner” regarding ways that you can keep yourself safe and what to do if you or someone you care about has been assaulted.  It’s a show you won’t want to miss, this Thursday, 10 am MST.  For more information visit Wendy's site, www.wendyblight.com.
